Viola -Young woman -Washed up on the shore of Illyria -shiped wrecked in a storm-Disguises herself as a young man & calls herself “Cesario” Works for Duke Orsino-Falls in love with Orsino-Olivia falls in love with Cesario-Disguise has entrapped her.
-Orsino -A powerful nobleman in the country of Illyria.-Lovesick for Olivia-Hires Viola, who is in disguise as Cesario. -Orsino mopes around complaining how heartsick he is over Olivia-Marries Viola

-Sebastian -Viola’s lost twin brother. -Arrives in Illyria with Antonio, a close friend and protector, -Confusing him for Cesario, Olivia asks him to marry her. -Marries Olivia
-Malvolio -The head servant of Lady Olivia. -Very efficient but self-righteous-Has a poor opinion of drinking, singing, and fun. -Is made to believe that Olivia is in love with him by a trick played by Sir Toby, Sir Andrew, and Maria-Reveals a powerful ambition to rise above his social class.
-Feste -The clown, or fool, of Olivia’s household-Moves between Olivia’s and Orsino’s homes. -Earns his living by making pointed jokes, singing old songs, being generally witty, and offering good advice cloaked under a layer of foolishness. -Often seems to be the wisest character in the play.
-Sir Toby -Olivia’s uncle. -Lets Sir Toby Belch live with her-does not approve of:–rowdy behavior –practical jokes–heavy drinking –late night carousing–Sir Andrew-Earns the anger of Malvolio. -Marries Maria. -Sir Toby & Maria ruin the controlling, self-righteous Malvolio.
-Maria -Olivia’s clever, daring young waiting-gentlewoman. -Similar to Malvolio in that she too wishes to rise in the world through marriage. -Writes the letter that tricks Malvolio into thinking Olivia loves him
-Sir Andrew Augecheek -friend of Sir Toby’s. -wants to be with Olivia–doesn’t stand a chance-thinks that he is:–witty–brave–young–good at languages–dancing-Is actually an idiot.
-Antonio -Rescues Sebastian after shipwreck. -Has become very fond of Sebastian–Seems to be romantic in nature
