Romeo and Juliet: Act 4 Quotes

I beseech you!” (4. 2. 19-23). a. Said by Julietb. Juliet says she regrets disobeying Capulet’s orders and Friar Laurence told her to ask for forgiveness.c. Juliet agrees to marry Paris and apologizes to Capulet.
“Death is my son-in-law, death is my heir, My daughter he hath wedded. I will die, And leave him all-life, living, all is Death’s” (4. 5. 46-48). a. Said by Capuletb. Tybalt, Juliet, and everything else belongs to Death.c. Caplet is upset about Juliet’s death.
“Send for the County. Go tell him of this. I’ll have this knot knit up tomorrow morning… Why, I am glad on’t. This is well” (4. 2. 25-30). a. Said by Capuletb. Capulet disclaims Juliet will marry Capulet and the marriage will be Wednesday, instead of Thursday.c. Basically, this quote means that the wedding date is changed and Juliet’s arrangements for faking her death are skewed and must be arranged for an earlier date.
“And this borrowed likeness of shrunk death Thou shalt continue two-and-forty hours And them awake as from a pleasant sleep” (4. 1. 114-116). a. Said by Friar Laurenceb. Friar Laurence tells his plan to Juliet and tells her she will drink a concoction which will simulate her death for 42 hours.c. Leads to their death wedding date was moved and Romeo was not told of the plan, kills himself, then Juliet sees Romeo died corpse, and kills himself.
Farewell! God knows when we shall meet again. I have a faint cold fear thrills through my veins That almost freezes up the heat of life. I’ll call them back again to comfort me… My dismal scene I needs must act alone. Come, vial” (4. 3. 16-22). a. Said by Julietb. Juliet wonders when she will see her mom and Nurse again and starts to call them back in the room, but she soon realizes she must be alone when she drinks the potion.c. Juliet is apprehensive about taking the potion, but is brave and decides to take it.
“Peace, ho, for shame! Confusion’s cure lives not In these confusions. Heaven and yourself Had part in this fair maid- now heaven hath all, And all the better is it for the maid” (4. 5. 74-78). a. Said by Friar Laurenceb. Friar tries to comfort Juliet’s family and friends with Juliet’s death.c. Friar explains all her family ever wanted was her happiness, and what is happier than heaven?
“Tell me not, friar, that thou hearest of this, Unless thou tell me how I may prevent it. If in thy wisdom thou canst give no help, Do thou but call my resolution wise And with this knife I’ll help it presently” (4. 1. 57- 61). a. Said by Julietb. Juliet tells the friar if he cannot help her or give her advice then the friar should condone her actions of committing suicide.c. Juliet would rather kill herself than marry Paris.
“Why, love, I say! Madam! Sweetheart! Why, Bride! Marry and amen, how sound is she asleep! I needs must wake her. Madam, madam, madam!” (4. 5. 4-10). a. Said by the Nurseb. The Nurse calls for Juliet, and realizes she is asleep and tries to wake her up for the wedding.c. This is when the Nurse realizes that Juliet is not asleep, she is dead.
