Othello characters

Iago the villain in William Shakespeare’s tragedy who tricked Othello into murdering his wife. Mad that he is not Othello’s lieutenant. Married to Emilia. Believes Othello could be sleeping with Emelia. Manipulative and sneaky. Iago kills his wife Emilia.Iago counsels Roderigo that he should cast Cassio into disgrace by starting a fight with Cassio at the evening’s revels.Iago tells us that he will frame Cassio and Desdemona as lovers to make -Othello jealous. Iago is ecstatic when Emilia gives him the handkerchief, which he plants in Cassio’s room as “evidence” of his affair with Desdemona. Iago wounds Cassio and runs away. Iago kills Emilia because h is upset that she gave away the true story about the handkerchief.
Venice Initial scene
Othello Black General. Married to Desdemona. Thinks Desdemona is not being true to their relationship.Othello’s help is needed in the matter of the imminent Turkish invasion of Cyprus. Othello begins to think that Dedemona is having a thing with Cassio. He becomes very jealous. Othello listens to Cassio talk about the prostitute Bianca, but thinks that he is talking about Desdemona. Othello makes a speech about how he would like to be remembered, then kills himself with a sword he had hidden on his person.
Roderigo If he gives Iago all of his money, Iago will help him get Desdemona to like him. Willing to kill to help Iago kill Cassio because he thinks that Cassio is a threat to his relationship with Desdamona…”in order to prevent Desdemona and Othello from leaving, Roderigo must kill Cassio. Then he will have a clear avenue to his love.” Roderigo is dead.
Brabantio Desdemona’s father. A Venetian senator. Feels betrayed when his friend, Othello, marries his daughter in secret. Brabantio arrives with Roderigo and others, and accuses Othello of stealing his daughter by witchcraft. He goes to the senate hoping to call Othello out in front of everyone but the senate is sympathetic to Othello.

Michael Casio Othello’s lieutenant.Young soldier with a high position (Iago hates this). After a drunken brawl, he losses his position and his really let down. Iago uses Cassio’s good looks and charm to convince Othello that Desdemona is not being faithful. Cassio does not die.
Duke of Venice Respects Othello.He reconciles Brabantio and Othello and also sends Othello to Cyprus. The duke says that Othello must go to Cyprus to aid in the defense against the Turks, who are headed for the island. Desdemona insists that she accompany her husband on his trip, and preparations are made for them to depart that night.
Desdemona Daughter of Brabantio. Secretly married to Othello before the play begins. Is killed by Othello smothering her with a pillow.She does forgive Othello for his jealousy. Tries to convince Othello to take Cassio back as leuitant (this makes Othello even more mad and questions her faithfulness to him)
Montano He was the governor of Cyprus before Othello. He recounts the status of the war and awaits the Venetian ships.

The Turkish Fleet was destroyed by the storm
Emelia Iago’s wife and Desdemona’s attendant. She doesn’t trst her husband, Iago. Emilia picks up Desdemona’s handkerchief, mentioning to the audience that Iago has always wanted her to steal it for him. Emilia says that Desdemona is innocent to sleeping with cassio or being a *****.Tells Othello the true story of how she got the handkerchief which upsets Iago.
Bianca A prostitute in Cyprus. She really likes Cassio and he is always pretending that he will marry her.
Lodovico He is one of Brabantio’s kinsmen. He delivers messages from Venice to Cyprus. He announces that Cassio has replaced Othello as governor (this makes Othello very mad and he hits Desdemona). . The play closes with a speech by Lodovico. He gives Othello’s house and goods to Graziano and orders that Iago be executed.
Gratiano He accompanies Lodovico to Cyprus. Also mentions in the last scene that Desdemona’s father has died
