Othello Act 4 & 5 Review

Why does Othello pass out in Act 4 Scene 1? He’s thinking about Desdemona cheating, and is freaking out because he doesn’t know what’s true.
Iago tells Othello that he will get Cassio to talk about Desdemona. Who is Cassio actually talking about? Bianca
How is Othello able to overhear the conversation between Iago and Cassio? He hides somewhere (maybe behind a bush?).
What “proof” does Othello have after Iago and Cassio talk? He thinks Cassio just admitted to having an affair with Desdemona. He sees Bianca with the handkerchief.
Othello decides he must kill Desdemona. Initially, how does he plan to kill her? He wants to poison her.
Iago tells Othello to kill Desdemona in a different way. In what way does Iago suggest? To smother her on their wedding bed.
Why does Othello strike Desdemona? (Act 4, Scene 1, Page 12) Othello thinks Desdemona is talking fondly of Cassio.
What does Iago convince Roderigo to do at the end of Act 4, Scene 2? To kill Cassio.
Desdemona is getting ready for bed and tells Emilia, “If I die before you do make sure I’m wrapped in those sheets in my coffin.” How is this dramatic irony? Othello has just agreed to kill Desdemona. The audience knows Desdemona is about to die, but she doesn’t.
Read Act 4, Scene 3, Page 4-5. How are Desdemona and Emilia’s ideas about love and faithfulness different? Des = faithful, loyal no matter what. She thinks other woman are the same. Emilia = would cheat. Thinks the husband is to blame if the wife cheats.
Map out who stabs whom at the beginning of Act 5. Roderigo tries to stab Cassio. Cassio stabs Roderigo. Iago stabs Cassio in the leg. Iago stabs and kills Roderigo.
Who does Iago try to accuse in Act 5, Scene 1, Page 6-7? Bianca
What does Emilia realize in Act 5? Why does she keep saying, “My husband.” She realizes Iago is to blame for all the deception. He stole the handkerchief. He planted it. He is the reason Desdemona is dead.
Tally the death count. Who is responsible for each character’s death? Iago kills Roderigo. Othello kills Des. Iago kills Emilia. Othello kills himself. Brabantio dies of grief.
