Othello Act 2, Scene 3

How does Othello feel about Iago? How do you know? Othello thinks he’s a good man because he’s protecting Cyprus.
What do you think the line “Come, my dear love, The purchase made, the fruits are to ensure That profit’s yet to come ‘tween me and you.” means? Why is this important? He means by this that, because their weddings over, they can have time alone and consummate their marriage.
Why does Cassio refuse to drink with Iago? How does he convince him? He says he’s not a fan of drinking and that he’s already drunk from watered-down wine and won’t participate in any more drinking.
What does Iago tell Montano after Cassio exits? He lies to Montano and tells that Cassio is a drunk and not a reliable soldier.
This scene shows us Othello’s anger for the first time. When and why is he angry? Othello gets mad for the first time when he sees Cassio and Montano fighting.
What “truth” does Iago tell Othello? He was telling the truth about a man (Roderigo) running and yelling and Cassio chasing him with a sword. And Montano and Cassio fighting.
What action does Othello take against Cassio? Othello dismisses Cassio and tells him he’ll never be one of his officers again.
What upsets Cassio more than anything? Cassio’s reputation is the most important thing to him.
What is Iago’s reaction to this? He thinks he’s being overdramatic and that a reputation is just a mental thing and he’s only lost it if he believes that way.
What does Iago convince Cassio to do to make peace with Othello and how does he convince him to do it? He tells her to open up his heart to Desdemona because she means everything to Othello, and could probably talk him out of firing Cassio.
What does Iago reveal when he’s on stage alone in lines 331-357? He was honestly giving Cassio good advice, but that’s because he’s doing one nice act before he makes his most evil plot. Desdemona will be in Cassio’s favor, and while all this is happening, Iago’s going to spread bad word about Desdemona to Othello. While Desdemona is in favor of Cassio, Othello will start to think she’s taking Cassio’s side which will split them in opposite directions.
Make a list of all Iago’s plots. 1. He plans to try to get Cassio punished or fired by getting him caught for being to flirtatious with Desdemona. 2. He plans to get revenge on Othello by sleeping with Desdemona. 3. He tries to get Cassio so drunk that he says something offensive in front of all the other guards so they all dislike him. 4. Desdemona will be in Cassio’s favor about him staying in Cyprus, and while all this is happening, Iago’s going to spread bad word about Desdemona to Othello. While Desdemona is in favor of Cassio, Othello will start to think she’s taking Cassio’s side which will split them in opposite directions.
How and why does he plan to get revenge on Othello? The revenge on Othello would be taking away what he loves most, his wife. He plans to sleep with her because he suspects that Othello slept with Emilia. He also plans to put bad blood between Othello and Desdemona by splitting them over Cassio.
How and why did he get Cassio in trouble? Cassio got i trouble for fighting two men and he ends up being dismissed by Othello as one of his soldiers.
