Othello Act 1~Shakespeare

What was Iago’s complaint in Scene 1? Iago’s complaint is that, even after having three major people of Venice encourage Othello to make Iago the First Officer, Othello did not choose him but Michael Cassio. Michael Cassio who is unfit for war as he has no experience, but Iago must be calmed and be a good, low ranking officer.
Who was Brabantio, and why did Iago and Roderigo awaken him in the middle of the night? Brabantio is the father of Desdemona, a young girl who has fallen in love with Othello, and he is also a senator. Iago and Roderigo went in the middle of the night to awaken him because Iago knew that Desdemona had ran away to get married to Othello. They said so by waking him up and telling him that he’s been robbed and that if Desdemona is in her chambers. However, Iago hid himself so Brabantio held Roderigo responsible for the ruckus if it were not true.
Why did Iago leave Roderigo at Brabantio’s house? It would seem unfitting for Iago to become a witness against Othello, as he is his officer, and he knows that he might lose the position if he remains a witness. Since Othello is heavily involved in wars at Cyprus, Brabantio’s argument will not be able to do anything to Othello. That is why Othello might still be able to remove Iago from his position after Brabantio comes to accuse him of witchcraft.
What was Brabantio’s reaction to Othello’s marriage to Desdemona? Brabantio was quite frightened by the concept and a bit outraged at having been left out. He was angry at Othello and awakened all his relatives to join him in finding Othello. He warned other fathers to not trust their daughters thoughts by the way they act, and he believes that her young mind was poisoned by some magic potion or witchcraft.
Why did the Duke send for Othello? The Duke sent for Othello because there was an incoming fleet of Turkish ships that was approaching Cyprus and they were having a council over the situation. The Duke needed Othello present as they planned to send Othello to Cyprus to wage war with the Turkish fleet of ships. Othello was the only one who was highly capable of defeating the Turkish fleet.
Brabantio complains to the Duke about Othello’s marriage to Desdemona. After listening to both sides of the story, what was the Duke’s reply? The Duke believed that even his own daughter would fall for such a tale as Othello’s because what Othello spoke of was a woeful tale that would be exceptionally true and would probably spark interest in any girl, especially any girl who takes pity in the tales of war and struggle. Also he gave advice to the couple and also to Brabantio, about the trials and tribulations of life.
What was Roderigo’s complaint, and what was Iago’s reply to it? Roderigo complained that Desdemona is completely in love with Othello and that he has no chance to gain her love and affection. Therefore, he planned to drown himself because his love is so great. However, Iago tells him that he is being a fool because it is easy to change emotions since Iago believes love is just a lust of the blood and the will. He says that Desdemona’s heart will change eventually and so will Othello’s if he gathers all the money he has and uses it for a bribe.
