The Three Witches. They say this in the beginning of the play. It sets the tone for the rest of the play by establishing a sense of confusion. Indeed, the play is filled with situations where evil is depicted as good, while good is rendered evil. “Fair is foul, and foul is fair.”

Lady Macbeth. At this point in the play she and Macbeth have reversed roles. She is now the one that is going crazy from her intense regret. Duncan. When Duncan says this it shows how poor of a judge of character he is. “There’s no art To find the mind’s construction in the face.”
Duncan. He is talking to Macbeth how the Witches will tell small truths in order to deceive people. “And oftentimes, to win us to our harm,The instruments of darkness tell us truths.”
Macbeth. He says this just before he kills Duncan. It shows how he is starting to go insane because of what he needed to do to become king. “Is this a dagger I see before me,The handle toward my hand? Come, let me clutch thee.I have thee not, and yet I see thee still.Art thou not, fatal vision, sensibleTo feeling as to sight, or art thou butA dagger of the mind, a false creation,Proceeding from the heat-oppressed brain?”
Imagination of Macbeth. This shows the deterioration of Macbeth’s mental health. It shows how he will not be able to sleep because of what he has done. “Sleep no more! Macbeth does murder sleep!”
Lady Macbeth. This is the scene in which she receives Macbeth’s letter and prepares herself to do what she needs to do to help Macbeth become king. “Come, you spiritsThat tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here.”
Macbeth. He says that nothing will be able to cleanse him of his guilt. “Will all great Neptune’s ocean wash this blood clean from my hand? No, this my hand will rather the multitudinous seas incarnadine, making the green one red”
Macbeth. He knows that he has no concrete reason to kill Duncan, only his ambition, which wins him over. “I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition, which o’erleaps itself, and falls on the other.”
