Macbeth Scene Summaries

1.1 the witches plan to meet with Macbeth
1.2 the injured soldier tells King Duncan of Macbeth’s heroic deeds and Duncan names Macbeth the Thane of Cawdor
1.3 the witches prophecy (Macbeth king, Banquo sire a line of kings) Macbeth is given the title Thane of Cawdor and he thinks of killing the king
1.4 the previous Thane of Cawdor is executed and Duncan thanks Macbeth for his heroism but declares Malcolm as the heir to the throne
1.5 LMB reads Macbeth’s letter and wants Macbeth to murder Duncan, she tells her husband to look innocent and follow her lead
1.6 Duncan arrives at the castle and is greeted by LMB
2.1 Macbeth tells Banquo that they’ll talk of the witches at another time Macbeth sees the floating dagger and goes to kill Duncan
