Macbeth Plot Map

Exposition Macbeth and Banquo lead Duncan’s army to defeat the King of Norway. Macbeth is praised by King Duncan.
Inciting Incident Macbeth is predicted to become thane, then king by the witches. Banquo learns he will never be king, but his son will be.
Rising Action Macbeth becomes Thane of Cawdor because of his bravery in war.
Rising Action Lady Macbeth talks Macbeth into killing King Duncan to take his crown. The two create a plan and Macbeth murders the king, despite a vision of a dagger he experiences.
Rising Action Macbeth becomes king, and Malcolm and Donaldbain flee to England and Ireland.
Rising Action Macbeth fears Banqo’s heirs will take throne and hires murderers to kill Banquo and his son, Fleance. Fleance escapes, but Banquo was murdered.
Climax Macbeth sees the ghost of Banqo at feast that night, Lady Macbeth tries to calm the guests.
Falling Action Macbeth goes back to the witches , finds he will never be harmed by a man born to woman.
Falling Action Lady Macbeth is found sleepwalking. Later, Macbeth learns she killed herself and he becomes very depressed.
Falling Action Malcolm, his army, and Macduff go to Scotland to fight Macbeth.
Falling Action When Macbeth learns Macbeth has fled to England to join Malcolm, Macbeth orders Macduff’s castle to be seized family to be killed.
Falling Action Macbeth and Macduff meet on the battlefield, and Macbeth learns Macduff was not born naturally. Macbeth knows he is doomed, but still fights.
Resolution Malcolm is crowned King of Scotland, and peace is restored once again.
