“Out, damned spot! out, I say!” -Lady Macbeth- to herself- Lady Macbeth is trying to wash away blood and real guilt. Indication of her mental state
“…my way of life/Is fall’n into the sear, the yellow leaf;/And that which should accompany old age,/As honor, love, obedience, troops of friends,/I must not look to have; but, in their stead,/Curses, not loud but deep, mouth-honor, breath,/Which the poor heart would fain deny, and dare not.” -Macbeth-to himself-Macbeth gav up love, honor, and friends when he killed to become king. Now he only has curses and no respect
“Out, out, brief candle!/Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player/That struts and frets his hour upon the stage/And then is heard no more; it is a tale/Told by an idiot, bull of sound and fury,/Signifying nothing.” -Macbeth-to Seyton-Macbeth realizes how short life is, and how meaningless his life is.

How is her hand-washing symbolic? She’s trying to wash away imaginary blood and real guilt.

Why does Macbeth claim to feel no fear? Because the forest has not started to move up the hill (he still trust the witches prophecy)

What are Malcolm’s instructions to his soldier? Why does he have them do this? attach limbs to their armor to use as camouflage. They are camouflaging their numbers
According to Malcolm, what is the quality of Macbeth’s troops? They are fighting out of fear and habit, they aren’t serving Macbeth out of loyalty.

What was the fatal flaw that resulted in Macbeth’s downfall? Too much ambition
As Macbeth becomes increasingly obsessed with protecting his position, he also becomes more and more isolated and alienated. How is that demonstrated in his relationship with his wife? She eventually has to send for him when she wants to talk to him. Macbeth leaves her out of his affairs. And when she dies, he has very little to say except he can’t deal with it at that time.
