In the opening soliloquy, Banquo expresses his fears about Macbeth’s actions. What are those fears? That Macbeth played a role in the death of the king and the guards
Why does Macbeth want Banquo and Fleance dead? Banquo – the only one who knows about the witches’ prophecyFleance – Macbeth believes that he didn’t just kill Duncan for Banquo’s sons to become kings

What is Macbeth’s plan for killing Banquo and Fleance? The murders will ambush them where the med get off their horses(a third murderer shows up claiming that Macbeth sent him)

What is the importance of Fleance’s escape? He has to live in order for the prophesy to come true
What is the importance of Banquo’s ghost? Macbeth’s mind is so unstable because he just had his best friend murdered. He can’t get his mind off of it
How does Lady Macbeth respond to Macbeth’s outburst? He’s had this illness since he was a child. Give him a few minutes and he’ll be fine
Who else is missing from the banquet table besides Banquo? Macduff (didn’t go to the coronation or the dinner)
Macbeth says, “I am in blood Stepped in so far that should I Wade no more, Returning were as tedious as go over.” He’s committed so many murders he can’t go back now
What is revealed about the conditions in Scotland? With Macbeth so concerned about himself, the people don’t have a functioning king. Anyone can commit any crime without being punished. People are too scared and worried to grow their crops and there isn’t enough food
What is the purpose of Hecate’s interview with the witches? She is angry with the witches for playing with Macbeth without her permission. She orders them, next time they meet Macbeth, to give him hints about the future the will make him feel invincible
What is the purpose of scene 6? The purpose is that it is Shakespeare’s way of allowing the audience to know what is happening in Scotland. First that Lennox and other lords believe Macbeth is playing apart in all that is happening in Scotland, including Duncan’s and Banquo’s death. He also tells the audience that Macduff is in England trying to get Malcolm to ask King James for an army to take back to Scotland
What does Lennox think about Macbeth, Fleance, and Duncan’s sons He thinks that Fleance and Duncan’s dons had nothing to do with Duncan’s death, but he thinks that Macbeth was involved with all the misfortunes that have destroyed Scotland’s peace and safety
