This scene with the porter provides some comic relief. Why is this scene important to the audience at this time? The audience just witnessed Duncan’s murder and all the anxiety Macbeth was feeling.
What is ironic about this statement: “but this place is too old for hell”. Macbeth’s castle is turning into a hell. Macbeth and Lady will go to hell for this murder.
According to the porter, how is drinking an equivocator of lechery? Alcohol makes people act vulgar. It makes men desire but takes away performance.
Why is Macduff up to early? He came to wake up the King.
Explain why Lennox said the night is “unruly”. Chimney’s were blown off, screams of death, birds making noises, the earth shaking.
Who found Duncan’s body? Macduff
What does Macbeth confess to Macduff? He killed guards
What does Macduff give as the reason for killing guards? Evidence showed they killed Duncan.
What is Lady’s reaction to hearing this? She faints to shift attention from Macbeth.
What do Malcolm and Donalbain decide to do? Why? Malcolm and Donalbain leave because they are scared of being killed too.
