What is meant by the expressions “foul” and “‘fair”? Something can appear good, but actually be bad. Something can appear bad, but actually be good.
What do the witches predict for Macbeth? He will become:1) Thane of Glamis (already is)2) Thane of Cawdor3) King
What do the witches predict for Banquo? He will be the father of kings. He will be happier than Macbeth but not as fortunate.
What happens to the Thane of Cawdor? He is executed
What warning does Banquo give Macbeth? Don’t place so much importance on prophecy
What do the first thoughts of murder do to Macbeth? They make his hair stand on end and make his heart race
Explain: “If chance will crown me King, why, chance may crown,/Without my stir.” If i became the Thane of Cawdor without doing anything then maybe i can become king without doing anything.
What is ironic about King Duncan’s statement that you can’t “find” a man’s character in his face? It’s ironic because you have to know someones heart and soul before you can know who they truly are.
Why does Macbeth doubt he will succeed Duncan as king? King Duncan names Malcolm his heir.
How might a movie alter the opening of this scene with Lady Macbeth reading aloud her husband’s letter? It would be her voice reading, and her lips wouldn’t be moving.
What is Lady Macbeth’s reaction to the prophecy? She is very happy about it! She wants to be a rich, powerful queen.

What is Lady Macbeth’s plan? She wants to get the servants drunk so that when Macbeth kills the king, they can blame it on the servants.
