Hamlet (Act II)

Where does Polonius send Reynaldo? Why? to France; spy on Laertes; ask around how Laertes has been acting
Why does Polonius think Hamlet is “mad”? Hamlet is sick with love for Ophelia after she rejects him
Why have Rosencrantz and Guildenstern come to the castle? try to figure out why Hamlet has gone “mad”
What is Polonius’ plan for testing his theory that Hamlet is love-crazy? Hamlet often walks alone through the lobby of the castle, and, at such a time, they could hide behind an arras (a curtain or wall hanging) while Ophelia confronts Hamlet, allowing them to see for themselves whether Hamlet’s madness really emanates from his love for her
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern finally meet with Hamlet, and Hamlet discovers they were sent for by the King. How does Hamlet describe his personal problems to them? What does he tell them? because he has lost all of his joy and descended into a state of melancholy in which everything (and everyone) appears sterile and worthless; they do not need to “fix” him
What arrangement does Hamlet make with Player 1? to preform a play that mimics the murder of former King Claudius; to frame Claudius
After Rosencrantz and Guildenstern leave Hamlet, what does he basically say in his soliloquy? working through internal struggle (relationship between Claudius and Gertrude); hard on himself; very indecisive/trying to figure out what to do
