Hamlet Act 1-3

Act 1 Scene 1 Bernardo and Francisco are talking and then Marcellus and Horatio show up. The ghost enters and all the men don’t believe it. They have Horatio confirm the ghost is there the second time it enters
Act 1 Scene 2 The king is talking in the stateroom to everyone and Laertes asks if he can go to France. The King Talks with Polonius and says yes. the king notices Hamlets dark demeanor and comments on it. Hamlet replies sarcastically as he thinks his mother has remarried too quickly. Horatio comes and tells hamlet that they saw his father’s ghost. Hamlet agrees to go with them to see it.
Act 1 Scene 3 This act takes place in Polonius’s house. Laertes talks with Ophelia about not loving Hamlet and she says to him that he’s a hypocrite. Then Polonius tells Ophelia not to accept Hamlet’s love.
Act 1 Scene 4 Hamlets walks out with Horatio and Marcellus to see the Ghost. The ghost tells only hamlet to follow.
Act 1 Scene 5 Hamlet and the Ghost discuss the death of the old King Hamlet. Here, Hamlet decides to go crazy and makes his men swear not to tell anyone of the happening of that night.
Act 2 Scene 1 Polonius sent a spy to Paris to spy on his son Laertes. He tells the spy to spread rumors about Laertes’ fake lifestyle to see what kind of respond he gets. Ophelia enters and describes her encounter she had with a disheveled Hamlet in her room. Polonius assumes that Hamlet’s recent madness must be the result of his love for Ophelia and runs to tell the king and queen.
Act 2 Scene 2 Claudius and Gertrude talk with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern and send them to go find Hamlet to discover why he is crazy. The ambassador requests safe passage through Denmark. Polonius declares Hamlet is mad because of Ophelia and shows love letter to Claudius. They agree to set up a meeting with Ophelia and Hamlet and go spy on them. Polonius attempts to talk with Hamlet, but Hamlets speaks scrambled and calls Polonius a “Fishmonger” and that Ophelia is pregnant. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern find Hamlet and sheepishly say they’re there for hamlet; hamlet knows they’re lying. A theatrical group is coming to the castle and Hamlet reveals he’s not actually mad. Polonius enters again with the actors. Hamlet plans to devise a trap for his uncle with a play.
Act 3 Scene 1 Rosencrantz and Guildenstern talk with the King and Queen and encourage them to see the play. The king and Polonius hide to spy on Hamlet and Ophelia. Hamlet has his To be or not to be speech. When Hamlet sees Ophelia she gives him his love letters back. He refuses and get angry saying he never loved her. Hamlet tells her to go to a nunnery. Claudius does not believe Hamlet is mad because of Ophelia and decides he wants to send him to England.
Act 3 Scene 2 Hamlet enthusiastically gives the actors stage directions and he tells Horatio to watch Claudius. Hamlet starts to act crazy again bombards Ophelia with a lot of puns. The play commenced and half way through Claudius halts the play and has to leave. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern fetch Hamlet and tell him he’s wanted in his mother’s room.
Act 3 Scene 3 Rosencrantz and Guildenstern talk with Claudius and Claudius says he’s sending them to England with Hamlet. They leave and Polonius enters saying he is going to hide in Gertrude’s room. When everyone leaves Claudius expresses his guilt and begins to pray. Hamlet walks into Claudius room and sees him praying but decides to not kill him at that moment.
Act 3 Scene 4 Polonius hides behind a curtain in Gertrude’s room after telling her to be harsh with Hamlet. Hamlet accosts his mother and try’s to get her to realize her sin in the fact she remarried too fast. Gertrude fears for her life and when Polonius moves behind the Curtain Hamlet stabs him saying it’s a rat. The ghost appears and tells Hamlet he has not completed his task. Hamlet tries desperately to tell Gertrude he isn’t mad. Hamlet reminds his mother that Claudius has sent him to England. Hamlet drags the dead body out to dispose of it .
