“He could not miss ’em. Had he not resembled My father as he spelt, I had done’t” Lady Macbeth–She couldn’t go through with it which is ironic because she was the one with more guts to do it in the first place. It shows that she has feelings though and is not completely calloused.
“Methought I heard a voice cry ‘Sleep no more!’ Macbeth does murder sleep’, the innocent sleep, Sleep that knits in the ravelled leave of care, The death of each day’s life, sore labour’s bath, Balm of hurt minds, great Nature’s second course, Chief nourisher in life’s feast,” Macbeth–He thinks he hears a voice saying he will never sleep because he killed sleep. Sleep helps mend you when you’re worn down, but this is saying that he will never be able to sleep again and therefore will not get its nourishing benefits or the opportunity to start over.
“What hands are here? ha! they pluck out mine eyes! Will all great Neptune’s ocean wash this blood Clean from my hand? No; this my hand will rather The multitudinous seas incarnadine, Making the green one red,” Macbeth–The entire ocean cannot wash away this deed. My hands will turn all of the ocean read. He is saying that what he has done is unforgivable and will never leave him.
“I hear a knocking at the south entry: retire we to our chamber: A little water clears us of this deed: How easy is it then! Your constancy Hath left you unattended” Lady Macbeth–Juxtaposition to Macbeth’s way of thinking. She is barely effected by what they have done. She is over it and feels like it is no big deal, but she couldn’t even go through with it.
“My hands are of your colour; but I shame To wear a heart so white” lady Macbeth–you are too pure and innocent. I would be ashamed if I were that pure.
“Had I but died an hour before this change, I had lived a blessed time; for from this instant There’s nothing serious in mortality All is but toys: renown and grace is dead, The wine of life is drawn, and the mere lees Is left this vault to brag of.” Macbeth–If I would have died an hour ago I could say my life was blessed, but now life is meaningless because he is gone and fame and honor are now dead. He’s just trying to pretend like he’s really sad over Duncan’s death to cover up for killing him.
“To Ireland, I: our separated fortune Shall keep us both the safer: where we are There’s daggers in men’s smiles: the near in blood, The nearer blood, the nearer bloody” Donalbain–keep your friends close and your enemies closer
unnatural events 1. it was daytime but it was dark outside. 2. a small owl killed a large falcon 3. Duncan’s horses broke free, killed, and ate each other.
“To be thus is nothing but to be safely thus” macbeth–being king doesn’t matter to be if i can’t be safe
“Nots had all spent” lady macbeth–nothing was gained, everything was lost. This
